Button at McLaren: it's done!

Despite a last minute intervention from Ross Brawn, Jenson Button finally decided to leave the team with which he became World Drivers Champion to join the ranks of McLaren. The team director Mercedes GP? ex-Brawn GP? wanted to keep his driver after having had a fantastic season which was crowned with two world titles. The main sticking point relating to the pilot's remuneration was therefore ultimately unsuccessful, the two parties having failed to reach an agreement.

If he had made it known that he wanted to stay with Ross Brawn, Jenson Button certainly obtained a contract with McLaren more in line with his status as World Champion, which is what he demanded from the start.

« It's always a difficult decision to leave a team when you've been around for so long. But is life full of challenges? and, the most important thing, is to challenge yourself. This is why I decided to join McLaren " said Button.

In the Woking team, he will find another World Champion, his compatriot Lewis Hamilton. The unfortunate Heikki Kovalainen finds himself without a steering wheel after two seasons spent at McLaren. “ From a personal point of view, it is also with great pleasure that I join a fellow British World Champion. I'm sure there are plenty of things we can learn from each other and I look forward to sharing our knowledge as the team moves forward. »
