For his return to F1 where it replaces Fernando Alonso retained at Indy 500, Jenson Button will not be spared from the reliability problems suffered by McLaren. The 2009 world champion received a 15-place penalty on the Monaco GP grid following changes to the Power Unit of his MCL32.
McLaren-Honda had to change the MGU-H and the turbo on Jenson Button's MCL32 after detecting a problem with the MGU-H at the end of the second test session held this Thursday, May 25 at the end of which it signed the 12th fastest time. The Woking team has already exceeded the limit of 4 elements for the season.
The penalty is all the heavier as the Monaco circuit is not conducive to overtaking and its urban layout reduces the performance gap between the teams.
