Button: Stubbornness or determination?

Jenson Button's 12th place at the Korean GP almost takes away all hope of a title. But the McLaren driver's determination remains imperturbable, even if the World Champion concedes a lack of pace from the MP4-25 against Ferrari and Red Bull.

Button: Stubbornness or determination?

Jenson Button is the lowest placed of the five title contenders. His fifth place is 42 points behind the leader Fernando Alonso while there are only two races remaining in the Championship (50 points in the event of victory in both races). The game seems to be over for the former Brawn GP driver but his teammate Lewis Hamilton does not want to give up yet as long as he mathematically has a chance of being titled.

« The situation remains unchanged for me », comments Jenson Button. “ I will fight as long as I have my chances. We can never know (what will happen) en F1. It's entirely possible that I win at Interlagos, coming home with maximum points without any other title contenders finishing the race. If it's another race in the rain, it could easily happen. »

However, the pilot McLaren forgets to specify that he will also have to win the last GP of Abu Dhabi without Fernando Alonso scoring more than seven points in the two races, to hope to become World Champion? Suffice to say that the chances are tiny. But the Briton remains confident in his car and in his team.

« Our pace has been a bit up and down lately “, admits Button. “ We had the speed to win at Monza, we were faster than the Red Bull in Singapore and our race pace was very good at Suzuka. It is therefore difficult to say precisely where we are. However, Interlagos is a circuit that should suit us, and I'm already looking forward to it. »

If the confidence of the Briton can leave you speechless, Jenson Button must know deep down that he will certainly not be World Champion (as he admitted at the finish of the Korean GP). But perhaps the 2009 World Champion is trying to maintain the morale of a winner, and if this is the reason for his approach, this determination is to his credit, as long as it does not penalize Lewis Hamilton.
