Button had a little trouble getting back into the swing of things

Jenson Button drove the McLaren MCL32 this Thursday, May 25 during the first tests of the Monaco GP where he came out of retirement to replace Fernando Alonso selected for the Indy 500. The 2009 world champion, winner the same year in the Principality, took 12th place during the second session, finishing a few thousandths behind his teammate Stoffel Vandoorne.

“I really enjoyed the tests, whether on short or long relays, assured Jenson Button. I had a little trouble finding my bearings in the car during the second session. I brake so much later compared to before and go through corners a lot faster. This adjustment takes time. With a day spent with my engineers analyzing the data, I am sure I can make progress on Saturday. »

Jenson Button says he has no regrets when he gets back behind the wheel of a F1 as part of a Grand Prix even if the McLaren ambassador continues to have fun.

“I wondered if I was missing it while doing my installation tour. This is not the case, but we always enjoy the moment when we are behind the wheel, confessed Jenson Button. Everything felt natural as soon as I left the pits. The strangest thing is the width of the car which seems gigantic when following a car or letting one pass. I really wasn't comfortable in those moments because I was afraid of being too close to the rails. In the end, the car fits me like a glove. »

Jenson Button is competing this weekend in his 306th and perhaps last Grand Prix in F1.
