McLaren has displayed convincing performances since the start of the weekend and confirmed its good form at the Hungaroring during qualifying this afternoon. Lewis Hamilton put more than four tenths behind the rest of the field while his teammate Jenson Button secured a promising fourth place on the starting grid. If the 2009 world champion hoped to do even better, he can only recognize the better development of his compatriot.
“I was more satisfied with the car in qualifying than in free practice”, comments Jenson Button who seems to have found a car capable of fighting at the front after his second place won last weekend at Hockenheim. “I couldn't be as happy as Lewis, he did a superb job and I congratulate him, but I feel good after that. I still regret having missed third position at the end of Q3 because this side of the track is cleaner and my start would have been easier. Fourth place is still not a bad result. Speed here relies on perfect balance of the car and I think this day proved that. I didn't manage to find it this afternoon but Lewis didn't miss it. I think Lewis' performance shows the true potential of our car. »
Jenson Button could, however, have an advantage if rain starts to fall during the race. The former world champion indeed won during the two Hungarian GPs contested in the rain (in 2006 and 2011).
