Button worried about hard tires

Jenson Button set the benchmark time for the first day in Catalunya with a time of 1'23"399 ahead Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg. The Briton obviously achieved this time on soft tires as he compared the two types of rubber available to him this weekend. But the gray sidewall tires did not suit the driver McLaren who complained of very strong understeer at the start of the second session. A fact all the more surprising for the 2009 world champion as he usually feels more comfortable with hard tires.

“It was a good afternoon but I had a lot of trouble understanding the tires”, recognizes the Briton. “We still have difficulty understanding them even if the car seems to work well with soft rubbers. I just couldn't ride with the hard tires, I couldn't get them up to temperature. I don't know the reason yet but we will have to resolve this problem before Sunday. The performance gap was very significant for me. Lewis (Hamilton) seemed more comfortable with the hard tires than the soft ones. Usually, I'm more comfortable with tough guys. »
