Button: McLaren more competitive in the dry

Jenson Button smiles again at the end of qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix as the driver McLaren achieved the eighth fastest time of the session and will start from seventh place on the Sepang starting grid following Kimi Räikkönen's penalty. The MP4-28s seem to benefit from a slight recovery in form even if the delay on the rival teams is still too great. The Briton in fact fails more than three seconds from the pole achieved by Sebastian Vettel.

“I don’t think we could get more than eighth, but finishing two tenths behind the winner of the last Australian Grand Prix in Q3 is not a bad result.”, declared the 2009 world champion. “We competed in Q3 on a wet track but we looked a little more competitive in the dry in Q1 and the first half of Q2 compared to last weekend. We are not yet fast but the team has done a fantastic job to exploit the best potential of the car. »

If Jenson Button's talent in the rain is no longer in doubt, the Briton does not know what conditions would be preferable for the Malaysian Grand Prix. The McLaren driver, however, seems to be preparing for a difficult race. “Regarding tomorrow’s race, you never want rain when you have a car competitive but you want showers when you have a slower car. However, we didn't have a very good pace on the intermediate tires today for Q3. So I would say we will fight and see what the race brings. »
