Button: McLaren will make further progress in Monaco

McLaren found itself in the spotlight this week with the announcement of its next partnership with Honda. But the British team is still going through a bad patch this season with an MP4-28 that it is unable to develop to aim for the front positions. Jenson Button and Sergio Pérez still managed to finish in the points at the last Spanish Grand Prix, a result which motivates the team for the Monaco GP played next Sunday. The 2009 world champion hopes to achieve a good result even if he was already in difficulty last year, only achieving 16th place.

The Briton is aware that the victory he won in 2009, the year of his title with Brawn GP, will certainly be unattainable next week. However, the McLaren driver hopes to see the gap with the best teams narrow even further on the streets of the Principality. “Monaco is a circuit like no other in F1. A qualifying lap brings an incredible experience to each driver who approaches each corner at the limit, flirting with the barriers. Pole is really satisfying but you have to be perfect for 78 laps to win the race. Everyone at McLaren has been working hard since the Spanish GP. We are not yet at the level of performance we are aiming for, but I am certain that there will still be a slight improvement in Monaco. We will continue to optimize the performance of the MP4-28 until we are at the forefront. There are no other plans for a victorious team like McLaren. The objective in Monaco will be to have both cars in the points, as we did in Barcelona. »
