Button: “We have made good progress! »

After a difficult start during the first session of the day, the drivers Mclaren made a spectacular leap forward during the second session, Jenosn Button even managing to set the 2nd time only 5/1000th behind Webber.

“When we started our development work this morning, we found very different track conditions, underlined the 2009 World Champion as he got out of the car. Taking into account what we had experienced in Melbourne, we had set up the car in a certain way which clearly was not suitable. We had to make big changes between the two sessions to find a good balance. Now she behaves much better. We found the right direction. »

For the Briton, however, the biggest concern remained the tires. “Everyone is on the same page!” As expected, the tires have very little grip. My last stint on soft tires went well but when they start to lose their effectiveness, it goes very quickly. The deterioration is much greater than in Melbourne. In fact, it is quite similar to what we experienced during the winter. »

As for whether he will be able tomorrow to take stock of the Red Bull, he was obviously very cautious. “We should already know how much fuel they had on board this afternoon. It is impossible to make any predictions. The only certainty is that we have made good progress! »
