Button: Vandoorne is well prepared for McLaren

Stoffel Vandoorne should have the best elements to succeed in his debut as a starting driver at McLaren-Honda next year according to Jenson Button. The 2009 world champion will make way for the reigning GP2 Series champion by taking a sabbatical as the team's third driver.

“He has achieved great things in his career, but that is the case for most drivers who have had a wheel at McLaren, commented Jenson Button on Sky Sports. He had the best training because he has been with the team since 2013. He overshadowed Fernando (Alonso) and me this year. He was present at every race and closely followed our engineering work, our debriefs…”

Jenson Button nevertheless admits that the pressure is high playing in a team as renowned as McLaren, the Briton keeping in mind the passage of Sergio Pérez dismissed after a season after promising performances achieved at Sauber F1 team.

“He’s in a perfect position, but it’s a difficult role to be a driver at McLaren, one of the biggest teams in the world.”, added the Briton.

Stoffel Vandoorne had successfully entered the British team by taking tenth place at the Bahrain Grand Prix when he replaced Fernando Alonso injured following an accident in Melbourne (Australia).
