Already involved in many disciplines, includingEndurance, Cadillac is preparing to take up the challenge of 24H of Le Mans from the coming week. However, the program F1 advances, progresses, and is being formed behind the scenes. Among the major attractions of the moment, the choice of drivers for the American brand is unleashing passions, both among fans and among the contenders themselves.
Indeed, although nothing has been signed yet for Cadillac, the possibility of Sergio Perez taking part in the adventure continues to grow. According to Formula 1 correspondent Lawrence Barretto, the Mexican has already taken part in discussions with the new F1 arrival next year. Alpine would also be on the list of teams that tried their luck to attract the former driver Red Bull in his nets.
Bottas is interested, Schumacher and Drugovic too
In addition to the experience sought from Sergio Pérez, that of Valtteri Bottas also attracts attention. Graeme Lowdon, whom the Finn already worked alongside at Sauber, would like to work again with his former driver since discussions have indeed taken place between the current reserve driver of Mercedes and Cadillac. Similarly, this same source recalls thatAlpine had also tried his luck at the end of last year and the stable ofenstone could still be a potential destination for the 35-year-old pilot.
Finally, while the inclusion of a driver with a large number of Grand Prix races would be an asset to a fledgling project, other profiles are also reportedly being sought. Currently favorites to secure a seat at Cadillac for 2026, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez are not the only names being considered by the American management.
Guanyu-Zhou, Felipe Drugovic, and Mick Schumacher would also be popular profiles at this stage. Having the advantage of not being regular drivers for any Formula 1 team at the moment, these drivers have repeatedly stated their desire to return to the forefront of the discipline in recent months. Although Felipe Drugovic, for example, is the reserve driver for Lance stroll et Fernando Alonso withAston Martin, the Brazilian had said he was ready to sacrifice the 24 Hours of Le Mans to seize the opportunity to race in Montreal if the Canadian driver's injury was confirmed.
Certainties are lacking
While all of these avenues appear coherent in many respects, the notion of performance is by no means guaranteed at this point. While Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas have previously managed to finish second in the Drivers' Championship, within dominant Red Bull and Mercedes teams, neither of these profiles appears to have recently shown the beginnings of a promising future in Formula 1.
Mick Schumacher achieving significant improvement in results with Alpine en WEC appears to be on the up, but Cadillac's path to finalizing a big signing could still be tricky. Will the choice be made with priority given to the funds released by said signing? Or will contractual opportunities ultimately take precedence over everything else?
