Where have they gone? They were to revolutionize sport and capture the attention of ever more volatile young generations.

Introduced in 2021 with great fanfare over three weekends of competition, the Sprint Races were to see their number double in 2022 to increase to six meetings. To the delight of Stefano Domenicali and Ross Brawn, boss and sporting director of the F1, and ardent defenders of the concept.

Finally, the 2022 campaign only has three short events, with a scale that has certainly been revised upwards. However, we are almost certain that you have forgotten the latest one (come on, let's help you, it was in Austria at the beginning of July). Do you know when the next one will be? We'll let you think.

In short, this revolutionary format supposed to guarantee spectacle galore does not leave lasting memories for the moment. In the jargon, we would say publicly that he has not found his audience...

Officialized last Tuesday by the FIA, the F1 2023 calendar does not yet include a Sprint Race. Would the stakeholders have given up on the idea?

Nay! It must be said that the soup is good. The Sprint Races are in fact an additional source of income for F1, between the partners who wish to sponsor these events and the promoters ready to extend the extension to accommodate more high-stakes sessions.

It is rumored that the subject of Sprint Races would be one of the points of friction between the FIA and F1. It did not escape us last Tuesday that the legislator had taken the commercial rights holder by surprise by publishing the F1 calendar just after its approval, and with only a quote from its president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

Having not had time to prepare its communication, the FOM hastily shared a statement from Stefano Domenicali. Atmosphere.

According to our information, the Sprint Races have not been shelved (unfortunately?), quite the contrary. They are currently the subject of negotiations between F1 and the FIA. Until we learn in a few weeks that each Grand Prix will have its Sprint, as recently announced by the MotoGP…Afterwards, when you have time to do 24 Grands Prix, you can add 24 Sprints to your calendar…

By the way, the next Sprint Race will take place in Brazil in mid-November.
