Canada: the essentials

The clash of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel at the Turkish GP deprived Red Bull a double which could cost them dearly at the end of the season. If the RB6s are the fastest on the track, Dietrich Mateschitz's team is now one point behind McLaren, currently leading the championship with 172 points. Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button took advantage of the accident between the two Red Bull drivers to score maximum points. If Christian Horner claims that everything is settled between Webber and Vettel, this misstep could be detrimental to the understanding between the two drivers for the rest of the season.

After his victory in Turkey, Hamilton – last winner in Montreal – will want to repeat his performance this weekend at all costs. “ I won my first race in Montreal in 2007 », says the 2008 World Champion. “ I have incredible memories of this race. Coming back here is fantastic! ". With a four-point tally, his teammate Jenson Button is banking on engine power Mercedes to shine. However, he has less good memories than his compatriot since his last race on this track ended in retirement with a broken gearbox.

Scuderia Ferrari is holding on to its third place as best it can. It is currently out of reach of Mercedes GP which is 46 points behind the Italian team. But these latest results, which are somewhat behind, are enough to worry fans of Maranello. Alonso has experienced a difficult last two Grands Prix, with an accident in free practice in Monaco and a poor qualifying in Turkey. Massa, 12 points behind his teammate, obtained results considered unsatisfactory by some. But not for Ferrari, which has just renewed its contract until 2012. The Brazilian will undoubtedly be keen to have a solid race in Montreal, in order to prove to his team that it made the right choice.

Felipe Massa is tied on points with a surprising Robert Kubica, who has already been on the podium twice this season. The Pole knew how to play the troublemaker several times for the first places. “ I think I will get a good result. My goal will be to score big points ", declared the first pilot Renault.

The Gilles Villeneuve circuit is a city circuit where it is very easy to hit the walls that border the track. Many races contested in Montreal have experienced multiple twists and turns... And the safety car is never far away.
