Carlos Sainz Jr continues the tradition

With the tenure of Carlos Sainz Jr at Toro Rosso alongside Max Verstappen for the 2015 season, the World Series by Renault confirm their role as a major “breeder” of young drivers With the GP2 Series.

“During his test with Red Bull Racing in Abu Dhabi, which rewarded his title in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Carlos made a strong impression and demonstrated the quality of the sector offered by Renault, indicates Jean-Pascal Dauce, director of Renault Sport Technologies. He is now preparing to make his debut in the elite with Toro Rosso, as he did Sebastian Vettel."

The son of the double world rally champion in 1990 and 1992 also joins the long list of drivers from the WSR who subsequently moved to F1, like Robert Kubica (2005 champion), Daniel Ricciardo (vice-champion 2010), Jean-Eric Vergne (vice-champion 2011), Jules Bianchi (vice-champion 2012), Kevin Magnussen (3.5 FR 2013 champion). Carlos Sainz Jr will wear the number n°55 in 2015, in order to be able to use the hashtag #Carlo55ainz.
