Author of a solid race, Carlos Sainz finished the Austrian Grand Prix in 5th position. As for several races, he is ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc. Using an offbeat strategy from the start of the race, the Spanish driver took advantage of fresh medium tires at the end of the race to overtake several competitors. He thus leaves Austria with the feeling of duty accomplished.

“I leave Austria happy with the work we are doing race after race, says Sainz. Today, we adopted a good strategy but also good tire management. We started Hard and the objective was to extend the relay as long as possible. Once I put on the Medium, it was all the way to the finish! ".

While his teammate crashed twice with Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz was able to sneak in to finish in the top 5. He snatched the 10 points which accompanied his result thanks in particular to the 10 second penalty from Perez, held responsible by the commissioners.

“I was able to surpass tsunoda quickly. Thanks to Leclerc, whom I thank, I was able to pass Ricciardo but also finish less than 10 seconds behind Perez to take 5th position. We've had two good races here but we're still a long way from where we want to be. Ambition and motivation are at their highest and we will continue to work to do even better in the next races.”

Carlos Sainz has the wind in his sails and comes back to two points behind his teammate. The understanding is perfect at Ferrari, but it remains to be monitored if Sainz definitively gains the upper hand over his Monegasque teammate.
