Pierre Gasly again experienced difficult qualifying in Monaco. The pilot Alpha Tauri, performing well since the first practice session on Friday, was trapped during Q1. The Norman will only leave on the 17th Sunday in the Principality. The Norman was in fact unable to complete a final timed lap, stuck in traffic during the restart after the red flag. At the microphone of Canal +, the Frenchman did not hide his frustration.

“I am extremely disappointed. We performed well all weekend, we had the 5th fastest time in FP3. I have to do the 4th or 5th time when I finish my 2nd lap on the first set of tires. We decide to only do two laps and return to the pits. Unfortunately, we take the red flag and miss the passage for a new lap for a few seconds. We make too many mistakes as a team and it costs us dearly this weekend where we performed well in all the sessions. »

The red flag, caused by his teammate's accident Yuki tsunoda, forced many drivers to start in single file with very little time remaining on the clock. Pierre Gasly was very critical of his team regarding the release timing. “There are lots of things we could have done differently. It will be up to us to analyze everything together and understand why we make these choices when others make different ones. The session was the same for everyone, we didn't make the right choices. It's not the first time... It's a shame. Of course there is a lot of disappointment but unfortunately, we have been making mistakes for several weekends. This will have to change because it is extremely expensive for us. »

The AlphaTauri driver will therefore start at the back of the grid on Sunday in the Principality. An unenviable place which does not give much reason to hope for a good result. Pierre Gasly was fatalistic after qualifying. “We will try what we can tomorrow (Sunday). We know how things go here, we know that with the cars we currently have, overtaking is limited. In terms of weather, the rain doesn't look like it's going to be there so we're going to do what we can. When we see the performance we showed all weekend and see where we're leaving, it's sad. We'll see what we can do. »
