Chassis change for Gasly after his AlphaTauri fire

Pierre Gasly got a little hot during Free Practice 2 of the Portuguese Grand Prix. The Frenchman was driving normally on the Portimão route when his car completely extinguished.

The winner of Monza barely had time to park his Alpha Tauri that flames were escaping from the rear. It took a few moments for the track marshals to intervene and contain the start of the fire, precious seconds during which the fire damaged the Normand's chassis.

AlphaTauri therefore made a change of survival cell during the night from Friday to Saturday, burning one of the 2 annual jokers allocated for violating the FIA curfew.

« Five seconds before I stop, I lost everything, confided Gasly Friday evening. The steering and electrical system on the car.

This is not the ideal scenario because we were unable to use the soft tire. On a new circuit like this, it's never good news. We will try to make up for it by analyzing Daniil’s data (Kvyat).

The pace seems good even if I don't feel completely confident with the car. Free Practice 3 will be very important because we will have to try to make up for lost time ».

Gasly also risks a penalty on the grid in the event of changing engine elements because he had already reached the limit for each of the 6 main components of the current hybrid propulsion systems.
