Yellow goes so well Ferrari ! After several difficult weeks, Charles Leclerc put Ferrari back on pole position at the best of times and in the best of places. Thanks to the new pace of the Ferrari, and facing a Red Bull more loaded with aerodynamic support, the Monegasque made everyone agree by putting out, as is often the case, a big lap on the second run of Q3, to provoke the clamor of the fans. He beat his rival Max Verstappen (+0″145) and his teammate Carlos Sainz (+0″268).

The Spaniard, who benefited from Leclerc's aspiration on the first run of Q3, was in provisional pole before the second run, which saw Leclerc, alone like a big one, going for pole position, as in 2019. In the History, the operation is not so bad for Max Verstappen, who despite five places of penalty for an engine change, will still start in 4th position, also benefiting from the penalties of Carlos Sainz (18th), Sergio Perez (13e) and Lewis Hamilton (19e).

Pierre Gasly, 5th on the grid

As is often the case, without making any noise, it is George Russell who will enjoy the joys of the first row, also benefiting from the penalties distributed. He will have a 100% second line behind him McLaren made of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, last winner of the Italian Grand Prix to date. The little surprise came from Pierre Gasly, 9th in qualifying but who will start in 6th position at the wheel of his Alpha Tauri. The Norman will start just ahead Fernando Alonso (6th) and Max Verstappen (7th).

Note Nyck's excellent performance De Vries. Called at short notice to replace Alex Albon operated on for an attack of appendicitis, the Dutchman achieved the feat of qualifying for Q2 with the Williams, after having only played one prior session. The protégé of Mercedes had to interrupt his last attempt after locking the wheels approaching turn 4. Small disappointment also for Esteban Ocon, eliminated from Q2 (11th), just like the two Alfa Romeo.

Complicated session for Aston Martin et Haas on the other hand, who saw their two respective drivers eliminated from Q1. The four men were eliminated in the company of a regular, the Canadian Nicholas latifi, eliminated while his teammate of two days Nyck De Vries passed in Q2… ouch ouch ouch! The Grand Prix will take place this Sunday, at 15 p.m.
