Charles Leclerc: “Unfortunately, we made the wrong choice”

Should we have stopped sooner? This is a question to which Charles Leclerc and his staff will have to think over the next few days to understand why the Monegasque did not end up on the podium. In third place on the starting grid, the Ferrari driver even took advantage of the pit stop of Verstappen et Bottas to lead the Grand Prix for several laps. Started with a strategy of finishing the race without making a single stop, as Esteban Ocon, Team finally changed his mind, seeing Bottas come back too quickly on Charles Leclerc.
“I lost a lot of grip at the end, he explains at the microphone of Canal +. There was a period with the worn tires where we were faster in the first 6/7 laps than Bottas with these new tires. But afterwards, he regained his performance and he was two seconds faster per lap. We had to stop and the second set of tires was very complicated to put on, this unfortunately made us lose the podium. Unfortunately we made the wrong choice, so we will try to analyze why we made this decision so that it does not repeat itself.”
