What a start to the year for Charles Leclerc and Ferrari! Feared since the first winter tests in Barcelona in February, the Team confirmed the trend this weekend in Bahrain where it won its first victory and its first double since Singapore 2019 thanks to Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

« I am very happy, whispered the winner of the day as he got out of his car in the Parc Fermé. I'm repeating myself again but the last two years have been extremely difficult for the team. We knew this was a big opportunity for the team and everyone did an incredible job building this car. We start in the best possible way with pole position, victory, best race time and a one-two finish with Carlos. We couldn't have hoped for better. Thank you to everyone who has continued to support us over the past two difficult years. It feels good to be back in the spotlight. »

To achieve this third career success, Charles Leclerc had to deal with a Max Verstappen combative during two thirds of the race. The Scuderia driver notably had to face attacks from the Batavian who were finally mastered to perfection before his opponent gave up due to mechanical problems.

« I tried to be smart by using DRS as much as possible, explained the man with 10 pole positions in F1. I tried to brake earlier at the first corner to be behind him when the DRS detected and it worked twice. I was able to get my first place back and I'm glad it worked."

Cut off in his tracks by a safety car which intervened after the stop on the track of Pierre Gasly With less than 10 laps to go, Charles Leclerc was finally not pushed around and was able to get his first victory since the 2019 Italian Grand Prix. I didn't want the Safety Car at that timeHe says. I managed a very good restart and that gave me a little leeway to manage my end of the race."

Author of the best time in the race, Charles Leclerc leaves Bahrain leading the championship with 26 points, 8 more than his teammate Carlos Sainz.
