Accounting, the Canadian Grand Prix put a blow in the back of the head to the Team Ferrari. Zero points and a double retirement while McLaren et Mercedes left Montreal with 28 units each. The Barcelona circuit, which many observers point to as revealing the forces present on the grid, is not currently smiling on Charles Leclerc… Unlike in Carlos Sainz, his teammate.

In Free Practice 1, the Monegasque was in great difficulty to the point of qualifying his car as" horrible " on the radio. Bad results which, however, do not affect the Ferrari driver's confidence for the rest of the weekend.

“I think it was a very difficult FP1 for everyone, especially because of the conditions, believes Charles Leclerc. It was extremely hot, making these cars very difficult to drive with overheating. Then, we weren't very comfortable with the balance of the car, and I didn't have the upgrades (in EL1, Editor’s note), because we wanted to compare the two cars.

Overall, it was a pretty tough session on my end. In FP2, I found some feeling again, I finally put everything in place and I still had a lot of rhythm to find. It's a bit of a tough Friday but I know where I need to make time so I'm not too worried about tomorrow (SATURDAY). »

Developments that work?

Like many other teams, Ferrari has made changes in Catalonia, which seems, for the moment, to be bearing fruit. Carlos Sainz, who benefited from these new parts from FP1, managed to quickly find pace. Charles Leclerc felt much better during the second session, once the new features were installed on his SF-24.

“I would say we are well on our way, said Sainz at the end of the first day. Over a long stint, we seem to struggle a little more – a bit like we did last year here. So let's see if we can put together a better setting, especially for Sunday. For now, on one lap, so good. »
