Charles Leclerc on the podium at Suzuka: "I sweated a bit during this race"

For the second time this season, after Australia, Charles Leclerc climbed onto the podium for Scuderia Ferrari. While the team has been consistent so far, the Monegasque driver's presence on the podium was not a given at the start.

Although he certainly got the best start from the grid when the lights went out, Charles Leclerc Finishing third in this Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka was by no means guaranteed. Among the drivers somewhat caught out by the safety car deployment following Oliver Bearman's accident, the Monegasque driver remained unfazed, even demonstrating his ability to shine with daring overtakes on Lewis Hamilton or George Russell, to name just a few.

"I broke a bit of a sweat during this race," he remarked ironically when taking stock"We were unlucky with the safety car. I knew I'd be behind Kimi and Lewis, but I quickly told myself I had to push, and I also had to try and make my tires last. It wasn't as big a disadvantage as I thought. We only lost a few positions, but it was a fun race. It wasn't enough to catch Oscar, but it was a good race."

Third indeed, Charles Leclerc almost thought he could catch the driver McLaren ahead of him. He might have been sweating a bit in his seat, but we certainly weren't sweating it out in front of the TV, with several completely artificial overtakes typical of yo-yo racing. As Fernand said, some corners at Suzuka have become charging stations, and it's fortunate that the chicane at the exit of the 130R still exists because it led to some enjoyable braking maneuvers.

Ferrari isn't that far away! He's right, it'll all come down to development, but that's not usually the Scuderia's strong point! It's going to be a long road to Miami!
