Charles Leclerc: A stupid mistake so early in the day

Among the rookies of this 2018 season of the World Championship F1, Charles Leclerc completed its winter preparation with a final truncated day last Friday in Barcelona.

The pilot Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team experienced an exit from the track, and contact with the barriers, forcing the Swiss team and the Monegasque to stay a long period in the pits, losing precious kilometers of running.

The FIA champion F2 in title, already author of small errors earlier during the tests, recognizes his fault but intends to take advantage of it. "I'm going to learn from this but I think it's a bit stupid of me to have done this so early today, but it happens, admits Leclerc, quoted by the F1 website.

I was attacking, I think the pace was very good on the current lap but obviously I didn't go to the end. It's completely my fault. I was able to accumulate good information, I learned a lot and there is still a lot to learn.

It's just stupid to have done it today, I'm a little angry with myself, but the other two (spins) are nothing special. »

Despite this loss of time on the track, Leclerc was able to test the hyper-soft tires and thus push the Sauber C37 further in performance – Ferrari. Ideally complementing racing simulations.

“Probably the racing relays are the biggest improvement because obviously I had never done any racing before the last two days. I did a second test today – not even complete because of the accident this morning – but I learned a lot from it. »
