Chase Carey: “A new organization to develop this sport”

Monday marked the end of an era in F1 with the replacement of Bernie Ecclestone as F1 CEO with Chase Carey, and opened a new era with the effective takeover of Liberty Media and recruitments of Ross Brawn as Director Motor Sports and Sean Bratches to lead commercial operations.

Chase Carey returned to the decisions taken by the new management of the discipline, in an interview granted at Sky News.

“Liberty Media, and I share this view, felt that, particularly in the last four or five years, business and sports have not grown to their full potential, comments the American.

We therefore had to bring a new organization to develop this sport in today's world, the way it needs to develop, and in many ways, working with our partners to ensure we make sports what it should or should be for fans. »

Chase Carey also recalled that he always counted on the expertise of Bernie Ecclestone, who led the F1 ship for almost 40 years.

“Let me be clear: the respect for Bernie Ecclestone is sincere. He deserves enormous credit for the company that was built over the last few decades, and which was just sold for $8 billion. The ultimate proof of the value he created is there for all to see.

He has unique ideas about this business, he understands it probably better than anyone, and I think his advice will be valuable. It has been helpful to me so far and I look forward to its advice. »
