Christian Horner: “Gasly was a different driver all weekend”

Red Bull Racing livened up the British Grand Prix last weekend with a Max Verstappen once again engaged in a fight with the Ferrari de Charles Leclerc et Sebastian Vettel, before losing big in a contact caused by the German driver.

But the Milton Keynes clan was also able to count on a remarkable return to form from Pierre Gasly. The Frenchman, fourth under the checkered flag, spared no effort against Charles Leclerc, demonstrating real progress in terms of performance after having worked seriously with his team.

Enough to receive the compliments of his Team Principal Christian Horner, while the Norman admitted having gone through a difficult time in recent weeks.

“Pierre did a really good job this weekend, Horner comments. Austria was a very complicated weekend for him. When he arrived here, he focused on what he had to do, without paying attention to his teammate.

He went back to basics. It looked like a different driver all weekend. He was competitive from FP1 and built on those foundations. He was on the pace during all three phases of qualifying and in the race as well.

He overtook Vettel again during the first stint, resisting Leclerc with panache. He delivered a great race. »

And thus began the construction of an interesting working base for the second part of the season. After a weekend break, Pierre Gasly and his rivals will return to action next week in Germany.

“I'm excited about the next meeting in Germany, especially after a strong weekend at Silverstone, and I'm looking forward to building on the momentum, admits the former pilot Toro Rosso.

I was back in the car on Tuesday after the race for the Pirelli tire test. Hockenheim is a track that I like. The circuit remains exciting and last year's race was epic with lots of action. »
