Claire Williams assures that her stable is not for sale

In sporting turmoil for two seasons, Williams also lost financial support from Lawrence Stroll, who went to buy Force India to make Racing Point, patrons of Sergey Sirotkin, who defended his colors in 2018, as well as his title sponsor Martini.

The latter has certainly been replaced by the telecommunications brand Rokit, while the return of Robert Kubica is accompanied by new money from Poland. New reserve of the stable, Nicholas latifi also contributes to Williams' budget.

However, rumors have been circulating in recent days about potential interest in Grove from Dmitry mazepin, father of the pilot of Formula 2 Nikita and boss of the fertilizer and fertilizer giant Uralchem. The businessman from Belarus applied for the takeover of Force India last summer, without success.

« I saw these articles but didn't pay much attention to them., declared Claire Williams at the FIA press conference in Baku this Friday. I did not meet Mr. Mazepin to discuss this subject. We had brief discussions mid last year but nothing since. Let me be clear: Williams is not for sale. I have no intention of putting Williams up for sale. I don't see why we would ».

Last in the Manufacturers' ranking in 2018, the English team seems condemned to suffer the same fate this season given the abysmal performance deficit displayed by the FW42. Even if the Williams group recently published stable financial results, the British team with 9 Manufacturers' titles and 7 Drivers' crowns must also manage the stormy divorce from its technical director Paddy Lowe, who also owns shares in the team.

« It's in these kinds of difficult times that rumors start to circulate, added the daughter of Sir Frank Williams, founder of the eponymous team. If I put on my businesswoman's hat, I would tell you that it would be unwise to sell at this time when the team is not in the best shape.

If we had great results, maybe that would make sense. The timing would be better. Williams has been involved in the sport for four decades, it is our profession, our passion, our livelihood. We never intended to sell.

My goal is to prove that we have the ability to get back on the podium and win again in Formula 1. It might take time but it took Frank 10 years to win when he started.

We are not the type to give up when there is bad weather. This is the kind of challenge that builds your character and we aim to take it up to show what we are capable of. ».

The real question is whether an independent team like Williams still has the possibility of playing at the forefront in current Formula 1...
