Colton Herta, the forgotten Cadillac F1 player?

As the American manufacturer prepares to make its Formula 1 debut in 2026, speculation surrounding potential drivers is rife. Yet, one name has been surprisingly rare: Colton Herta. At only 25 years old, Colton Herta already has a solid career in IndyCar. After trying his luck in Europe, the Californian returned to the United States in 2017 for two seasons of Indy Lights. Although he did not win a single title in his career, that did not prevent him from reaching the top of the car American since 2019, supported by Andretti Autosport and George Steinbrenner IV, grandson of the owner of the New York Yankees baseball team.

Colton Herta, also the heir to a motorsport dynasty—his father Bryan competed in IndyCar for twelve seasons before founding his own team—wasted no time in making his mark. In just his second IndyCar race, Colton emulated his father by winning at the Circuit of the Americas. On that occasion, he became the youngest winner in IndyCar history.

The easiest thing for Herta is to finally win the IndyCar title by the end of August 2025, and Cadillac Racing will then be able to integrate him into its F1 team in the fall of 2025, shortly after announcing who its first driver will be!
