How Alonso prepares for Abu Dhabi?

A new circuit, specific preparation. This weekend in Abu Dhabi, the drivers will discover a brand new track: Yas Marina which should prove quite demanding. The first impressions of Fernando Alonso thus confirm this.

« It seems relatively difficult for the drivers. We will have to manage 20 turns and some of them seem difficult to me. But I'm making these comments while looking at the circuit map, it's only when I've completed the first lap of the route on foot that I will really begin to grasp it. »

Before making the first laps at the wheel of the R29 on Friday, the Spaniard must first follow a long process which will allow him to arrive as ready as possible during the first free practice session.

« The simulation data is very useful and I work closely with the team to understand the configuration of the circuit, much more than for a track that I already know », Continues Alonso. “ I think the preparation time for this Grand Prix will be five times longer than normal. Walking around the circuit will be very important for me and my engineers. »

However, the double World Champion is not too worried about discovering the circuit. “ The first time we drive the car on the circuit, we already know it by heart because we have studied it well before. I would say that five laps are enough to get to know a new circuit well. Generally speaking, we perform better during the last laps of the race; we then master the route very well He concludes.
