Oliver Bearman isn't one to feel sorry for himself. Yet, the Englishman had every reason to feel bad after experiencing a prolonged period of turbulence during the season-opening Australian Grand Prix weekend.
Pilot's galleys Haas started from the first tests with an outing that severely limited his driving time since he did not return to the track for the day. Saturday morning, it was the same story for the boy from the London suburbs who made another mistake after less than 5 minutes in the last session before qualifying, which was attacked with very little preparation and ultimately not even contested since a gearbox problem immediately immobilized him.

In the race, and in very difficult conditions, Ollie simply "brought the car home," without really taking any risks on the track. It was also a way for him to regain his feeling, his rhythm, and above all, his confidence after such a difficult start.
“Small mistakes, big consequences”
But the Australian debacle clearly had no negative impact on Oliver Bearman, despite the Chinese Grand Prix weekend following on from there. It's pretty easy to move on, confided-he's pretty sure of himself.
These were small mistakes with big consequences, which is simply a characteristic of this circuit. It's a bit of a tricky track on the calendar. I should have approached the sessions differently for a circuit like this, where there's no margin for error. »
With his head on his shoulders, the Englishman showed that his confidence had not been affected by putting in a very solid performance in Shanghai, despite discovering the circuit like a week earlier (in F1) in Melbourne. Trapped in Q1, he grabbed the points after a great comeback on Sunday, punctuated by some nice overtaking moves. The disqualifications of Lewis Hamilton et Charles Leclerc even allowed him to finish in 8th place. Proof that the boy is full of determination and does not look back.
