In difficulty on all fronts at the end of the 2020 season, Haas, smallest structure of the grid in Formula 1, had to change gear to hope to survive in the medium term. In the winter of 2020, Gene Haas' team decided to part ways with its driver duo Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen, to enter a new era thanks to the support of the Russian company Uralkali, led by Dmitry mazepin. The ambition displayed? Save Haas, first, and reconnect with the mid-grid in 2022, then. The Russian oligarch, known to be close to Vladimir Putin, was happy to join forces to allow his son Nikita to obtain a seat in F1. But inevitably, Russia's invasion of Ukraine shook the world geopolitically, and the tremors were felt across all industries.
