Coronavirus: the FIA has created a crisis unit

The coronavirus continues to disrupt the holding of global events. Thus, the MotoGP canceled its first race in Qatar and postponed the race in Thailand.

Motorsport seems for the moment relatively spared from the epidemic, but the organizers are closely monitoring the situation as the 2020 season of the F1 will be launched on March 15 with the Australian GP.

The FIA World Council has confirmed the creation of a crisis unit which meets every two days to examine the latest developments around the world. Professor Gérard Saillant, president of the FIA Medical Commission, gave a detailed presentation on the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic.

The FIA recalled that it was closely monitoring the situation with its member clubs and promoters and that it would follow the advice of the competent authorities with governments and the World Health Organization.

The Federation will evaluate the competition calendar and affirms that it will be ready to take “all necessary measures to help protect the international motorsport community” and that she “will postpone competitions if necessary”.

Italian teams, Such as Ferrari ou Alpha Tauri, have been particularly impacted since a major outbreak broke out in Emilia-Romagna and containment measures were taken.
