Coronavirus: F1 summer break brought forward to March-April

The FIA World Motor Sport Council announced this Wednesday afternoon that the 2020 sporting regulations had been amended so that the compulsory closure of factories F1 be brought forward to March-April due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The decision thus opens the door to the organization of Grands Prix postponed during the summer break. Teams also have greater latitude to choose their period of inactivity since the latter has been extended from 14 to 21 days.

The reason ? Some team members placed themselves in voluntary isolation for 14 days upon their return from Australia.

These changes were unanimously adopted by the Commission and the F1 Strategy Group.

Red Bull was the first team to react publicly by announcing that it would begin its mandatory truce on Friday March 27, “ although dates remain flexible due to the volatile nature of the pandemic ».
