He had to wait until the sixth round of the season to score his first points. Liam Lawson, Isack Hadjar's teammate at Racing Bulls, started in 13th position this Saturday in the sprint race in Miami. Thanks to a very good start, the New Zealander quickly found himself in the points zone. After that, he never left it despite a slight collision with Fernando Alonso in the last laps.
So, upon arrival, the former resident of Red Bull finally took seventh place, meaning two small units in the purse. The driver was obviously satisfied, especially with his pace, as he confided to the F1 microphone. “It was a good race, a very good start to the weekend. From the first lap, I felt we had pace. Sometimes you get a gap and then it goes full speed. That’s what happened to us., Lawson admitted. So I'm grateful to the team for that. I think it's good for us. I'm very happy to score points."

Asked about the incident with Alonso at the end of the race, which cost the latter his retirement, the New Zealand driver admitted that he could not have avoided it. “He came out on cold tires and I had done a lap, so I was trying to pass him early in the lap. I made sure to take the advantage at the apex to pass him. I feel like I did that, and then I got squeezed. So at that point, honestly, I was heading towards the wall and trying to get out. But he didn't give me any room,” assured Lawson after the race.
"That was obviously not my intention. (to send it into the wall. Ed.). But I felt like I had the advantage,” he then estimated.
