As Italy remains the country hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, Ferrari has redeveloped its facilities Maranello in order to participate in the effort to fight the virus which has brought the planet to a standstill.
The Prancing Horse department where in-house prototypes are usually designed now produces thermoplastic components using additives and 3D printing machines.
Some of the valves were developed by the Mares company, which specializes in scuba diving equipment. They then make it possible to produce masks intended to relieve patients in respiratory distress.
Other fittings are supplied by Solid Energy, which uses them to transform Decathlon diving masks before they are distributed to healthcare workers as a means of protection.
In the coming days, Ferrari will have produced several hundred parts, the first models of which are being distributed to various Italian hospitals located in the cities of Bergamo, Genoa, Modena, and Sassuolo, as well as to medical personnel stationed near Bologna.
From the start of the health crisis, the Agnelli family, major shareholders of FIAT and Ferrari, made a donation of 10 million euros to the Italian civil protection department.
