Cyril Abiteboul defends transparency at Mercedes

The episode of instructions passed to Valtteri Bottas in Mercedes in Russia continued to cause a lot of talk, provoking a number of reactions, not always favorable to the decisions taken by Mercedes AMG management F1. In his defense, Toto wolff, boss of the German structure, indicated that he preferred to be “the unjust of Sochi than the idiot of Abu Dhabi” with a view to securing points for the two world titles.

The manager of the star brand can, however, count on opinions in line with the strategy of the world champion team. “When we look at the economic structure of the Concorde Agreements, there is a huge advantage in winning a Manufacturers’ title, highlights Cyril Abiteboul, General Manager of Renault Sports F1 Team.

At the same time, everyone essentially remembers the name of the winner of the Drivers' championship, we all agree to recognize him. The question is how to reconcile these two issues. I think it is better to be transparent about the stable instructions and assume them completely.

The way Mercedes is handling the situation seems most appropriate to me. They repeatedly and cumulatively seek to have the best team result, while favoring Lewis. »

Which could allow Hamilton to win a fifth world crown at the United States Grand Prix in just over a week, if one of the following scenarios shows up in Texas.
