Cyril Abiteboul leaves the Renault Group

Nobody saw it coming. Expected as the new bossAlpine including the arrival of the Dieppe brand in Formula 1 and LM P1 in the world endurance championship, Cyril Abiteboul ended its relationship with the Group Renault indicated the French manufacturer this Monday, January 11.

« I thank the Renault Group for trusting me over these many years, in particular for the relaunch and reconstruction of the team since 2016. The solid foundations of the racing team and the entities in France and England built in over these years, the strategic developments of sport towards a more economically sustainable model, and more recently the project Alpine which provides renewed meaning and dynamics, allowing us to envisage a very beautiful trajectory “, confesses Cyril Abiteboul.

Replacing the former Renault F1 Team principal (renamed Alpine F1 Team from the 2021 season), the Losange called on Laurent Red. Previously director of strategy and business development for the Renault Group, the 45-year-old is now Managing Director of the brand Alpine « from January 11, 2021 ».

Laurent Rossi will take care of the activities Alpine Cars, Sport, F1 and competition. He will have to report to Luca de Meo, Managing Director of the Renault Group, who did not forget to greet Cyril Abiteboul.

« I would like to warmly thank Cyril for his tireless involvement which notably led the Renault F1 Team from the penultimate place in 2016 to the podiums last season. His remarkable work within F1 since 2007 allows us to look to the future, with a strong team and the new identity Alpine F1 Team to conquer the podiums this year ».
