What a surprise ! While the contract extension for Daniel Ricciardo in Red Bull was becoming a more than likely possibility this summer, the Australian feinted and decided to leave the Anglo-Austrian team at the end of the 2018 season Formula 1.

Red Bull announced this news via a press release at midday on Friday. “We fully respect Daniel’s decision, says Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner. We wish him the best for his future and would like to thank him for his dedication and the role he has played since joining us in 2014.” Daniel Ricciardo won (after the Hungarian GP) his seven victories in F1, two poles and 29 podiums.
This is a truly unexpected outcome to this soap opera that has been running since the offseason. While the openings at Ferrari et Mercedes were quickly closed, Daniel Ricciardo looked certain to keep his place alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull for 2019.
The smiling Australian is now expected at… Renault. End of June, the main interested party did not reject the McLaren route. In short, the summer transfer window is not about to end.
