Daniil Kvyat, another good surprise in Melbourne

Kevin Magnussen was not the only rookie to shine in qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix since Daniil Kvyat also took part in the last session despite the rain in Melbourne. The reigning GP3 Series champion took eighth place on the grid with intermediate tires between Nico Hulkenberg and Felipe Massa finishing just over a second behind his teammate Jean-Éric Vergne (on rain tires) who did not fail to congratulate him.

Daniil Kvyat must now take advantage of his good position on the grid to try to grab points from his first Grand Prix. “It was a very good session for us and I really didn't expect to qualify in eighth place for my first Grand Prix two months before. This undoubtedly marks real progress and I am happy for the team who did a superb job in terms of strategy. The conditions were very delicate, but the car was efficient and we were able to get by. Our attention is now focused on tomorrow which should be interesting with the weather forecast. »

The Australian Grand Prix will be contested from 7 a.m. French time and can be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr. Photos from the weekend can be found on this link.
