In the race in Baku, Racing Point wants to shine on all terrains

Find the definition of the word “ maximization » in the dictionary and you will undoubtedly find a photo of Sergio Pérez there. Faithful to his reputation as a consistent and stubborn driver, the Mexican has just scored three points finishes with a car that did not really turn heads on paper at the start of the season.

Add to that a more than honest start to the campaign for his new teammate Lance stroll and you understand why the men of Szafnauer and Lawrence Stroll occupy 5th place in the Manufacturers' Ranking, ahead of Alfa Romeo, Renault, and Haas among others.

As a result of the financial and administrative problems experienced by Force India last year, the genesis of the RP19 was nevertheless very turbulent but with its new support, the Silverstone team managed to bring a first evolution to Melbourne. Racing Point, however, warned that it would take time for this new package to express all its qualities.

« It must be recognized that the Baku track flattered the characteristics of our car, Szafnauer, boss of Racing Point, told us after Pérez's 6th place and Stroll's 9th in Azerbaijan last Sunday. It is now up to us to ensure that the car is competitive on all terrains.

We will be bringing developments to Barcelona that should help unlock the potential we saw in the development introduced in Melbourne. It won't just be aero, there will be mechanical components as well. ».

If the American manager considers his team's start to the season solid, he also believes that the Roses' harvest could be even higher.

« I think we could have scored more points, added Szafnauer. Lance should have finished in the Top 10 in China but he found himself stuck in traffic behind the Toro Rosso byAlbon just before his pit stop and crossed the line at the points gate. But hey, we still have 17 in the bag, that’s not bad ».

This year again, we will have to count on the eternal outsider, a descendant of the Jordan team, to liven up the battles in the middle of the grid.
