De la Rosa doesn't give up

Pedro de la Rosa will still be in the paddock in 2010. But as a reserve driver McLaren or driver with a new team? The Spanish driver does not know it yet and seems much less worried than the Spaniards, who wanted to see him team up with Campos Meta alongside Bruno Senna. But a lack of funding hampered this association.

From now on, it is USF1 which appears to be a possibility of choice for Pedro de la Rosa, the American team having established its base in Alcaniz, taking advantage of the amenities of Motorland Aragón. But, even if the team of Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor is looking for experienced drivers, the 38-year-old driver does not want to delude himself too quickly.

« It?s still too early, he told the Spanish agency EFE. There is no urgency in making a decision. It's true that USF1 and Motorland have reached an agreement, but personally I don't know what will happen next or who I might drive for. »

Pedro de la Rosa affirms that he will have no trouble returning to his current position, even if an agreement is reached with USF1. “ I will be very happy to stay with McLaren-Mercedes to be a reserve driver there, and organize myself to drive for another team, or more simply join another team to race. I'm doing everything I can to come back F1 but I don't know what will happen. »

Last weekend, however, Argentinian driver Jose Maria Lopez confided that he was thinking of joining USF1 for 2010, having already raised 70% of the budget requested by the Charlotte-based team. A budget which deprived Pedro de la Rosa of a seat at Campos. “ With sponsors, everything would be easier, confirms the Spanish pilot. But I believe my F1 experience is more important. My experience is my sponsor. »
