New vibrators so as not to repeat the Verstappen affair

The maneuver caused a stir in 2017. On the last lap of the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin (Texas), Max Verstappen had overflowed Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) by placing the four wheels of its Red Bull outside the limits of the track. The Dutchman's podium was taken away from him immediately, causing incomprehension in the F1 paddock.

One week before the start of the 2018 season, Charlie whiting decided to return to the hot debate regarding borders. While some drivers want the classic gravel traps to return, the Safety Delegate for the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) assures that it “There will be no change of approach”. Namely that grass or gravel clearances are still not a solution.

“I think that wherever we go, we are eliminating the risk (to see a driver break the circuit and gain an advantage). In Austin for example, it goes without saying that new curbs will be added in the curve where Max went off the track. There will be bumpy curbs, like we installed on the inside of the first and last corner. »
