French motorsport has lost one of its emblematic figures. Former pilot of F1 passed notably at McLaren, Ferrari, and Renault, winner of two Grands Prix, Patrick Tambay died this Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the age of 73.
A great racing figure, the man with 114 starts in Formula 1 but also a Dakar participant was praised by his peers and those close to him, starting with his son Adrien, also a driver and recent ETCR champion.
« Dad. It's way too hard to find the words. I would like to remain as discreet and elegant as you have always been... the number of messages received from all your friends and admirers testify once again to the man you were and the admiration you were able to arouse... wrote Adrien in a poignant message on Instagram.
As a Dad, you have always been my hero and the example to follow. This damn illness will separate us far too soon... I'm relieved to know you are at peace and free from your suffering but now know that I will take you with me on all the next adventures... you will be proud of me. I love you dad and even if the void will be there I refuse to say that I miss you already, because you will always be by my side. Daddy cool forever. We love you »

« Hi Patrick, I relived that victory at Imola in 1983, seven years later in 1990. That day we fought hard and you won, because of my mistake in Acque Minerali. We became very good friends after our retirement from GP Masters in 1995! wrote his former counterpart Ricardo Patrese.
They were races with a fantastic atmosphere, and I remember your little Adrien who encouraged you, and the coincidences of life mean that now he participates in GT races with my Lorenzo. The last few years have been very hard for you, and I really hope you can find peace now. A big hug, Riccardo »

« Sad for the Tambay family today following the disappearance of Patrick Tambay, reacted simon pagenaudchampion IndyCar 2016 and winner of the 500 Indianapolis 2019. I had the chance to meet and talk several times with Patrick who was a very endearing person. The pilot leaves behind a magnificent career and the image of a Gentleman! A big thought for Adrien Tambay ».
