Death of Sergio Marchionne

The latest information from the Fiat-Chrysler group (FCA) mentioned “of an irreversible state”. The fight for life led by Sergio Marchionne died at the hospital in Zurich (Switzerland) at the age of 66, as announced by the Exor group, the holding company of the Agnelli family (founder of Fiat).

The Italian industrialist had been in a coma since Friday July 20, the automobile group mentioning in a statement “post-operative complications”. Sergio Marchionne was admitted to Zurich hospital on June 28 after surgery to remove an invasive shoulder sarcoma – a form of cancerous tumor. His state of health had deteriorated significantly. “unexpected and very serious”.

Sergio Marchionne had to give up his position as boss of Ferrari and FCA in April 2018; this replacement was accelerated by the immediate appointment of the British Mike Manley, until now at the head of the American manufacturer Jeep.

Sergio Marchionne had accessed as president of Ferrari in October 2014 in place of the indestructible Luca di Montezemolo, and had marked the spirits by the subsequent replacement of Marco Mattiacci by Maurizio Arrivabene at the head of the Scuderia.

Responsible for the Fiat group since 2004, the transalpine businessman was behind the total takeover of Chrysler in January 2014. Heavily indebted at the end of 2014, the group has since completely erased its debt.
