La Formula 1 is celebrating its 70th anniversary on the British track at Silverstone, where it all began on May 13, 1950. Even if Mercedes was not present that day, she wanted to dominate the qualifying session commemorative with their 199th pole as an engine manufacturer, and their 67th front row (record).

Valtteri Bottas will start in front of his teammate Lewis Hamilton. The last two times when the Finn had set the best time, he had won the race (in Austin in 2019 and in Red Bull Ring this summer).
Behind, the second line will be occupied by theamazing Nico Hülkenberg (Racing Point), replacement for Sergio Pérez, still positive for coronavirus. He will have the Red Bull at his side Max Verstappen. The Dutchman consoles himself by remembering a statistic: the last four times that a driver had won from 4th, he was driving a Red Bull.
The only Frenchman present in the top 10 is Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri). The Norman will start seventh while his teammate Daniil Kvyat stopped in Q1 for the second time in three events.
Once again, Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) is delicate with his mount. The four-time world champion is only 11th. Esteban Ocon (Renault, 14th) received three penalty places for embarrassing George Russell (Williams, 15th), then in a lap launched in practice.
Romain Grosjean (Haas) will start from 13th position, while the Alfa Romeo monopolize the last line. In 1950, they occupied the first 4 places on the grid!
The F70 1th anniversary GP will start at 15:10 p.m. French time and can be followed on AUTOweekly.fr in live text.
