The second part of the season Formula 1 has become synonymous with the headache of determining starting grid order since the introduction of the V6 turbo hybrid in 2014. The 2022 Italian Grand Prix is no exception to this frustrating rule, with a mountain of penalties for various changes to mechanical elements at Monza.

In order to better understand the hierarchy of the peloton, let's summarize the sanctions affecting no less than nine competitors at the Monza Autodrome:
- Max Verstappen (Red Bull): 5 penalty places for a change of power unit
- Esteban Ocon (Alpine): 5 penalty places for a change of power unit
– Sergio Pérez (Red Bull): 10 place penalty for a change of power unit
- Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo): 15 penalty places for multiple element changes in the power unit
- Kevin Magnussen (Haas): 15 penalty places for multiple element changes in the power unit
- Mick Schumacher (Haas): 15 place penalty for a change of power unit and gearbox
- Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes): Start from the back of the grid for several element changes in the power unit
- Carlos Sainz (Ferrari): Start from the back of the grid for several changes of elements in the power unit and gearbox
- Yuki tsunoda (Alpha Tauri): Start from the back of the grid for several power unit changes, 10 penalty places for five driving reprimands and 3 penalty places for not having slowed down under yellow flags

How to deal with all these sanctions? It's very simple, you'll see. A driver who must “start from the back of the grid” will have priority over a specific number of penalty places. That is to say that a driver may have 50 penalty places, he will be able to start the race in front of a driver rejected at the back of the grid.

This is why the last lines at Monza will be occupied by Tsunoda's AlphaTauri, Hamilton's Mercedes and Sainz's Ferrari. These three competitors are classified according to their progress in qualifying, with the Madrilenian (3rd time) ahead of the seven-time English world champion. Just above we find the two Haas, then the Pérez-Ocon-Bottas trio.

Author of the second fastest time, Max Verstappen is the last driver to be relegated, to seventh place. Now, it is possible to retrain the other pilots, the good students who have not changed anything on their car.

Si Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) preserves its eighth pole of the 2022 season, the rest of the top 10 has a physiognomy rarely seen this year. George Russell Mercedes) will start second, ahead of a 100% second row McLaren (Lando Norris 3th, Daniel Ricciardo 4th). There is no doubt that Zak Brown's men will want to repeat their double achieved in 2021 in the Temple of Speed.

Victorious in 2020, the French Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) gets a great opportunity to make an impression with 5th place on the grid, just ahead of the veteran and future driver Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso (Alpine, 6th). The top 10 is completed by the beginner Nyck de Vries (Williams, 8th), called to compensate for Alexander albon suffering from appendicitis, Guanyu-Zhou (Alfa Romeo, 9th) and Nicholas latifi (Williams, 10th).

Meet at 15 p.m. for the start of the Italian Grand Prix to be followed in live text on AUTOhebdo.fr.
