Home straight for Todt and Vatanen

After several months of intense campaigning where the two candidates tried to distance themselves from each other, the name of the future president of the FIA will be known this Friday. Having received the support of Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone, Jean Todt is the favorite but Ari Vatanen does not admit defeat.

In line with the outgoing president, Jean Todt has chosen to place his campaign under the sign of continuity. These main measures are as follows: continued reduction in costs in F1, combine fair competition and spectacle but also make the governance system more transparent, democratic and fair.

Opposite him, Ari Vatanen, a fine politician if ever there was one, placed his campaign under the sign of change. Former member of the European Parliament, he also advocates more transparency and democracy at the FIA, he also wants to make F1 and the rally more attractive but also to change the sharing of revenue between the F1 teams.

Concerning the support of both, Ari Vatanen, even if he did not receive the knighthood of Max Mosley, relies on his network to try to tilt the result in his favor. Prince Feysal of Jordan recently spoke out in its favor and rocked a majority of Arab countries. Ukraine also called on the countries of the former USSR to support the Finn.

On the side of the former director of the Team Ferrari, he received support from Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone. Finally, Michael Schumacher also said he was favorable to his former leader.

With the vote taking place this Friday, the results of the election should be known in the evening. For now, the FIA has confirmed the presence of a bailiff to ensure the smooth running of the procedure as well as a private space for voting. Each candidate will finally have fifteen minutes to make a speech to the assembly.

To find out more, find the detailed program of the two candidates in AUTOhebdo n° 1723 published Wednesday October 21.
