Standing starts in the rain?

According to Fox Sports, the stables of F1 should meet this week to discuss the idea of a standing start on a wet track after a few reconnaissance laps under safety car regime.

The teams would like to preserve this important moment of the weekend following the British Grand Prix played on July 10 at Silverstone where rain forced the marshals to bring out the safety car before the start of the race.

The team managers should address the subject this Wednesday July 27 during the meeting concerning the sporting regulations before discussing it again the next day at the Strategic Group meeting.

“We would have to leave the safety car on the track for one or two laps and see what happens, bring it in and do a standing start which is one of the most exciting moments. If the rules remain unchanged, the drivers should then be allowed to return to the pits”, has proposed Toto wolff, the executive director of Mercedes F1 and member of the Strategic Group.

“I think caution prevails following Jules’ accident (Bianchi, at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix), nuance the Austrian. That's understandable, but we have to get back to what motorsport is all about: having the best drivers with the most powerful cars in difficult conditions. »
