Developments at Renault in Austin

Long awaited, the developments of the 6 liter V1,6 turbo/hybrid Power Unit of the Losange will finally be available this weekend at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Renault still had twelve development tokens and several areas have undergone modifications as detailed by Rémi Taffin, director of operations.

« The main change concerns the internal combustion engine, to give more power and efficiency. Whichever specification we choose, we can't wait to be in Austin. Our reliability has been good in the last three races, while the performance is more in line with our expectations. Our two teams just need a smooth weekend to demonstrate the improvement in the potential of their groups. »

If the provision is acquired, the use of these new blocks is not, the teams being able to face penalties, the engine quota having already been exceeded. “We know that the use of this new Power Unit would lead to the application of penalties on the starting grid, continues Taffin.

The decision to use these developments will therefore be taken after full consultation with the teams. At this stage of the season, every point is obviously crucial. If circumstances permit, we will exploit these new features on the track. »
