More efficient single-seaters in 2017

2017 should indeed be the year of renewal in F1. The FIA, following the F1 Commission meetings yesterday in Geneva, Switzerland, revealed possible new measures which should give rise to more visually aggressive single-seaters, but also more efficient with more aerodynamic downforce.

In terms of dimensions, the width of the single-seater bodies should be increased, as should the widths of the rear wing and the front wing (from 1650 to 1800 mm). The dimensions of the rubber will also be revised, with much wider front and rear tires. The weight of cars will be increased. The Commission, however, approved the postponement of the finalization of the Sporting and Technical regulations for 2017 until April 30.

On the Power Units side, constructive progress according to the FIA, on the cost and obligation of supply, the convergence of performances and the increase in sound volume, are to be noted. A working group comprising representatives of the FIA, commercial rights holders, engine manufacturers and customer teams, will continue the work to arrive at a final project before April 30.

Our F1 2016 Guide is already available in digital version and will be on newsstands tomorrow.
