First points for Stroll at home

After a complicated start to the season with four retirements in six races and an eleventh place as best result, the reigning champion of Formula 3 was able to find his way to the points by finishing 9e of his home Grand Prix and finally unlocking his championship counter.

« I wish it would have come sooner but hey, it is what it is, expresses the Canadian. I think it was possible for a long time but everything worked today: no technical problem, no contact, nothing like that."

However, the task proved difficult since the pilot Williams launched from the 17e place on the grid, trapped by Wehrlein's accident at the end of Q1. Following an aggressive strategy, Stroll could move up the hierarchy with a lot of overtaking to reach these two saving points.

“We were able to ride easily in clean air and we had the right pace. Everything we could do was done today and I'm very happy for the team and for myself too. »

Lance Stroll is now 16e of the championship ahead of Palmer, Ericsson and the two drivers McLaren.
